Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank. Model 137-27-02 Ventura. Constructors number 137-4773. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-34 Lexington serial number 41-38117. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) as Ventura Mark IIa serial number FD665. Disassembled and shipped as cargo aboard a ship overseas to the United Kingdom as part of defense aid. Wartime History Reportedly, this aircraft served in North Africa. Afterwards, shipped to New Zealand. On August 6, 1943 assigned to the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as Ventura NZ4600 and reassembled by Unit 36 at No. 1 Aircraft Depot (1 AD) at Hobsonville Airfield. During late 1944, assigned to No. 4 Technical Training School (4TTS) at Nelson Airfield. Postwar Sold off as surplus to Mr. Russ for 35 pounds then transported the plane to his farm near Nelson. Until 1971, this aircraft was stored outdoors and largely untouched until it was acquired by the Museum of Transportation and Technology (MoTaT). Restoration During the early 1970s, restored at Museum of Transportation and Technology (MoTaT) by Barrie East, using References USAF Serial Number Search Results - Lockheed B-34 "38117 (MSN 137-4773, FD665) to New Zealand as NZ4600 Aug 6, 1943. SOC Nov 1947. Remained on farm at Nelson until 1971 when the remains were transported to Museum of Transport and Technology, Western Springs, Auckland, NZ. Restored using parts from wrecks of NZ4522 and NZ4618 in New Guinea and wings from an Airland Lodestar. Now on display in the museum painted as NZ4600."
