Built by Curtiss. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SB2C-1C Helldiver bureau number 00342.

Wartime History
Assigned to USS Essex (CV-9) to Bombing Squadron 15 (VB-15). No known nose art or nickname.

Mission History
On June 15, 1944 took off from USS Essex CV-9 piloted by Ensign T. Clement on a dive bombing mission against Iwo Jima. Last seen during the dive bombing run over the target. Possibly, hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the sea west of Iwo Jima. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).

Memorials
Both crew were officially declared dead on January 19, 1946. Both are memorialized at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) on the courts of the missing. Clement on court 5. Jackson on court 3.

Clement earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart, posthumously. He also has a memorial at Pine Hill Cemetery in Peterborough, NH.
