Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company in El Segundo. Constructors Number unknown. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SBD-5 Dauntless bureau number unknown likely five digits. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Navy (USN) or U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). No known markings or tail code. Mission History This SBD crashed on Ballale Island. Likely SBD Dauntless 11002 or SBD Dauntless 35976. Wreckage This SBD cras site includes tail hook, wing dive flaps and sperry gyroscope. Justin Taylan adds: "I searched for this wreckage in 2003 and 2005 and was unable to find it.
