Wartime History
American fighter aircraft that crashed onto or near Eniganimu Island at the eastern edge of Truk Lagoon.

Wreckage
Dick Williams adds:
"When I was in Truk, Micronesia off and on from 1969-1983, I saw on the beach, partial wing wreckage. Also saw the engine in the water. I asked around and was told that a man named Risa, who lived on Moen had found it firstly. I went to him and he explained that at the end of WWII he went to that island to harvest copra. There he found the wreckage piled up on the beach. He found skeletal remains, part of a flying suit and a few dollars, American. He buried the bones on the island. I suppose this was a shoot down on the February 1944 Operation Hailstone. This island where the wreck is was quite small. If you are diving there, watch for sharks on the side of the island away from the crash."
