Contract AC24664/BRA-557. Constructors Number 4336. Line Number 236. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number AN574. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia arriving March 25, 1943. Wartime History Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Vengeance Mark IIa A27-208. Assigned to 1 Air Depot (1 AD) and reassembled. On May 4, 1943 assigned to No. 12 Squadron. No known nickname, nose art or markings. Mission History On May 23, 1943 took off piloted by Sgt J. E. Sheehan on a training flight and suffered an electrical fire then force landed on the beach at Dum In Mirrie Island off Port Patterson southwest of Darwin. Both crew were unhurt in the crash and returned to duty. Wreckage The wreckage of this aircraft remains in situ. The crew were uninjured, and were rescued from the island the following day. Apart from a few instruments saved by the crew, the aircraft will probably be a total loss, as tides prevented further salvaging."
