Location Norfolk Island Airfield is located on Norfolk Island in Queensland in Australia. Construction During September 1942, Norfolk Island Airfield was constructed in the flat area. On December 25, 1942 the first plane landed a RNZAF Hudson. On December 29, 1942 officially opened. Wartime History During the Pacific War, used by Allied aircraft, primarily Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) plane conducting patrols and as a transit point for ferry flights. During 1943–1944 manned by New Zealand personnel. During July 1946 the last New Zealand personnel were withdrawn. Today Still in use today as Norfolk Island Airfield.
