Location Lat 21° 56' 26N Long 96° 5' 23E Mandalay Airfield is located at an elevation of 252' above sea level to the south of Mandalay in Burma. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in British Burma (Burma). Today located in the Mandalay Region of Republic of the Union of Myanmar (Myanmar). Wartime History During May 1942 Mandalay Airfield was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA). Starting in late 1942, attacked by Allied bombers and later fighters that neutralized the defenses and focused on bombing the city's railroad infrastructure. American missions against Mandalay Airfield November 20, 1942–July 26, 1944 On March 21, 1945 the British Army 14th Army, 33 Corps captured all of Mandalay as organized Japanese resistance ceased in the city. Today Still in use today as Mandalay Chanmyathazi Airport classified as a small airport for domestic flights and is operated by the civil government. The single runway is oriented 19/01 measures 6,500' x 100' surfaced with asphalt. Airport Codes: ICAO: VYCZ IATA: VBC.
