Location Lat 40° 1' 29N Long 124° 17' 10E Dandong Airport is located at an elevation of 30' above sea level near Dandong (Andong) to the west of the Yalu River in northern China. Still in use today as Dandong Langtou Airport (Dandong Airport). Prewar, known to the Japanese as Antung Airfield 安東 (Anto) meaning "Pacified East". After the Korean War, the name was changed to Dandong Airfield. In 1985 opened for civilian use as Dandong Langtou Airport or simply Dandong Airport. Today located in Liaoning, People's Republic of China (PRC). Construction Built by the Japanese as a pair of gravel surfaced runways known as Antung Airfield. Korean War History When the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) entered the Korean War, Antung Airfield was upgraded with a single paved runway for jet fighters and an air defense headquarters was established at the air base. By November 1950, a single runway 6,000' surfaced with concrete was completed with hardstands and concrete surfaced taxiways for use as a base for MiG-15 jets. Antung Airfield was used as a forward airbase for patrols and flight training of Chinese and North Korean pilots who would fly from this location then stage to other airfields or move into North Korea. In early December 1950 Voyenno-Vozdushnye Sily (VSS) Soviet Air Force 50th IAD, 29th Guards Fighter Regiment (29th GvIAP) led by Colonel Pashkevich moved to Andong to being paroling over the Yalu River and engage U.N. aircraft. In February 1951, the 97th IAD and 190th IAD arrived at Andong. Soviet Air Force VSS units based at Antung 50th IAD, 29th GIAP (MiG-15 C.O. Col Kozhedub) April 1951 Today On April 29, 1985 Dandong Langtou Airport 丹东浪头机场 opened for civilian flights operated by Civil Aviation Administration of China. Also known as simply Dandong Airport. The single runway is oriented 0/19 measures 8,530' surfaced with concrete. Airport codes: IATA: DDG, ICAO: ZYDD. During 1993, the airport was upgraded. On April 17, 2014 a new terminal building was opened plus an expanded apron, parking and oil depot to increase passenger capability to roughly 2 million people per year.
