Also known as Illahabad or Baumrauli. Still in use today as Allahabad Airport. Construction Built in 1910 as one of the first airfields in India known as the Allahabad Flying Club. Later, renamed Bamrauli Airfield. Wartime History During April to November 1942, used by U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers briefly. American units based at Allahabad 7th BG, 9th BS (B-17) Karachi arrives April 27, 1942–June 29, 1942 departs Palestine 7th BG, 11th BS (B-17) Karachi May 27, 1942 - ? 7th BG, 436th BS (B-17, B-24) Karachi June 1, 1942–November 14, 1942 departs Gaya Today Still in use today as Allahabad Airport as both a public and military airfield used by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The airport has two runways. The first is oriented 24/06 4,800' x 150' surfaced with concrete. The second is oriented 30/12 measures 8m110' x 150' surfaced with asphalt.
