Location 12° 58′ 56″ N, 80° 9′ 49″ E Madras Airfield located near Madras (Chennai) in Tamil Nadu State in India. Construction One of the first airfield built in India. Constructed on land donated by the former governor of Madras Presidency, L. Sriramulu Naidu. During 1932 the first aircraft to land at the airfield was a British Puss Moth. Wartime History During the war, important base for the British and American aircraft. During 1943 the 80th FG, 459th FS (P-38) staged through Madras Airfield. Today During 1952, the Indian Civil Aviation Department took over operations. Since 1972 administered by the IAAI and known as "Chennai Airport" or "Chennai International Airport".
