American missions against Kendari and Kendari Airfield

January 28, 1942
(FEAF) B-17s attack Kendari Airfield.

February 8, 1942
(FEAF) Nine 7th BG B-17s attempt to bomb Kendari II Airfield, but are repulsed by fighter attacks.

February 9, 1942
(FEAF) Nine 7th BG B-17s, armed with seven 100 lbs bombs and a bomb bay fuel tank attempted to bomb the Japanese occupied Kendari II Airfield. A dozen fighters trailed the formation from behind and made head on attacks, shooting down B-17E 41-2492 and B-17E 41-2456 and damaging B-17E 41-2482. Forced to jettison their bomb bay fuel tanks, the remaining B-17s aborted their mission.

June 30, 1942
(5th AF) B-17s attack Kendari Airfield. Returning from the mission, B-17E 41-9014 crashed in the early hours of July 1, 1942 killing three of the crew.
