Location Lat 3° 15' 0" S Long 127° 5' 0" E Namlea Airfield was located at Namlea inland from Cape Namlea and Cape Karbou on the eastern coast of Boeroe Island in the in the Moluccas Islands (Maluku). Also known as Namlea Town Airfield, Buru Airfield or Buroe Airfield. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in North Maluku Province in Indonesia. Construction Prewar, a single runway was built at this location by the Dutch. Wartime History At the start of the Pacific War, used by the Netherlands East Indies Air Force (NEIAF) and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) until January 1942 as an advanced operational base. Afterwards occupied by the Japanese and used as a military airfield. American missions against Namlea May 29, 1943–January 3, 1945 Between late May 1943 until January 1945 attacked by Allied bombers and fighters. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. Today Disused since the war, the former airfield was developed and became part of Namlea.
