Map of Morotai Landings
The map includes southern Morotai Island including Cape Denegila at the tip of the Gila Peninsula, Pitoe Bay, Gotalalamo (Bobaharam) and Doroeba Plain. On September 15, 1944 the U.S. Army made an amphibious landing on beaches: Red Beach used by the 155 Infantry Regiment and 167 Infantry Regiment, White Beach used by 124 Infantry Regiment, New White Beach and Blue Beach. The solid black line indicates the "D-Day Objective" with the boundary lines between 155 to the north, 167 in the middle and 124 to the south. The dotted rectangular lines indicate Pitoe Airfield (Japanese) abandoned runway. Wama Airfield (Guama) completed October 5, 1944 and Pitoe Airfield (Pitu) completed October 17, 1944. The lower right insert includes Morotai Island, Raoe Island, Morotai Strait and the northern tip of Halmahera Island.
