Wartime History
Kisarazu Airfield was used by the Imperial Japanese Navy for the duration of the Pacific War. The Kisarazu Kokutai was formed at Kisarazu Airfield operating the G4M1 Betty. On November 1, 1942 redesignated the 707 Kokutai.

During early August 1945, the Japanese Navy conducted test flights of the J9Y Kikka jet prototype. On August 7, 1945 J9Y Kikka Prototype 1 made a successful test flight and became the first jet to fly in Japan. August 11, 1945, the same jet made another test flight with two rocket assisted take off (RATO) units installed under the wings but suffered a crash landing.

Postwar
During the US occupation of Japan, Navy Air Transport Service (NATS) was based at Kisarazu Airfield.
