| Location Honshū Island means "main island" in Japanese and is the largest island in the center of Japan. Also spelled Honshu. To the north and west is is the Sea of Japan. To the north is Tsugaru Strait and Hokkaido. To the south is the Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku Island and Kyūshū Island.
