Location Honshū Island means "main island" in Japanese and is the largest island in the center of Japan. Also spelled Honshu. To the north and west is is the Sea of Japan. To the north is Tsugaru Strait and Hokkaido. To the south is the Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku Island and Kyūshū Island. Kantō Region (Kanto Region) Tokyo Metropolis (Tokyo Prefecture) includes Tokyo, Izu Islands and Ogasawara Subprefecture. Izu Islands chain of islands spanning from Izu Peninsula southward. Ogasawara Subprefecture includes include the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands). Chiba Prefecture located to the east of Tokyo, includes Chiba City, Narita and Tateyama borders Tokyo Bay.
