Location Shikoku Island is located in the Shikoku Region of southern Japan to the south of Honshū and east of the Kyūshū Island. Borders the Seto Inland Sea (Inland Sea) to the south. Shikoku means "four provinces". Shikoku Island is 225 km long and between 50 and 150 km wide and comprised of Ehime Prefecture, Kagawa Prefecture, Kōchi Prefecture and Tokushima Prefecture. Wartime History On May 25, 1945 the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff approve the directive for "Operation Olympic" the planned U.S. operation scheduled to commence on November 1, 1945 with a diversionary landing on southern Shikoku Island. American missions against Shikoku April 17 - August 9, 1945 Ehime Prefecture Located in the southwestern portion of Shikoku Island.
