Location
Lat 31° 52' 38N Long 131° 26' 55E  Miyazaki Airfield is located at an elevation of 20' above sea level in Miyazaki in Miyazaki Prefecture on Kyūshū in Japan.

Construction
During 1943 a single runway was built at this location oriented roughly east to west bordering the eastern coast of Kyūshū.

Wartime History
Used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as a military airfield. Starting in February 1945 used for kamikaze missions against U.S. warships off Okinawa. During late April 1945 until the end of the Pacific War, targeted by American bombers and later fighters.

American missions against Miyazaki Airfield
April 22, 1945–August 12, 1945

Today
Still in use today as a civilian airport known as Miyazaki Airport or Miyazaki Bougainvillea Airport. The single runway is oriented 27/09 measures 8,200' x 150' surfaced with asphalt. Airport codes: ICAO: RJFM IATA: KMI.

On October 2, 2024 an aerial bomb unexploded ordnance (UXO) reportedly dropped by American planes spontaneously exploded under a taxiway causing damage and closed the airport. Afterwards, a team from the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force investigated the explosion.
