Location Lat 34° 59' 0" N Long 139° 51' 0" E Tateyama Airfield was located at Tateyama on Nojima Cape in Chiba Prefecture on Honshū in Japan. Also known as "Tateyama Naval Air Base". Borders Tateyama Bay (Tateyama Wan) and beyond Uraga Channel (Uraga Kaikyo) to the west and further to the north is Tokyo Bay and beyond Tokyo. Construction Built prewar as part of Tateyama Naval Air Base that includes Tateyama Airfield and Tateyama Seaplane Base. The airfield area emcompasses approximately 220 acres. Two intersecting runways form a "T" shape. The first runway orientated east to west measures 3444' x 410'. The second runway orientated north to south measured 2296' x 492'. Tateyama Airfield has complete repair facilities, fuel and part storage. Wartime History Tateyama was major Japanese airfield used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) to patrol and defend the Tokyo area.
