(JAAF) JAAF reconassiance aircraft overfly the airfield in the early morning. Soon afterward, the airfield was bombed by bombers escorted by Ki-27s. After the strike the 70th iap (Air Regiment) had only 18 serviceable aircraft out of their original 63. On the ground, ace pilot Mayor Sergey Gritsavets was forced to hide behind the engine of an I-15 while bombs were falling.
