Location Caldera Seaplane Base was located at Recodo on the eastern tip of Caldera Point on southern Mindanao in the Philippines. Also known as Recodo Seaplane Base. Known to the Japanese as "Rekoodo" or "Recordo". Borders Caldera Bay to the east and Basilan Strait to the south. Seven miles to the west is Zamboanga. Construction Caldera Seaplane Base was established by the Imperial Japanese Navy as a seaplane and flying boat base with land facilities on Caldera Point including a seaplane operating area inside Caldera Bay. Included a jetty, pier, hangar, concrete servicing apron, launch ramp, storage tanks and base area. Wartime History During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as a seaplane operating base. During late 1944 attacked by American aircraft until late February 1945. Japanese Units based at Caldera Seaplane Base (Recodo) 954 Kokutai (F1M2 Pete) American missions against Caldera November 2, 1944–February 28, 1945 By the middle of March 1945, liberated by the U.S. Army/ Afterwards, used by the U.S. as a seaplane base. and based the 2nd Emergency Rescue Squadron (2nd ERS) using the OA-10 Catalina. American Units Based at Caldera Point 2nd Emergency Rescue Squadron (OA-10 Catalina) April 1945–June 1945 Today Disused as a seaplane base since the war.
