Location Lat 10° 10' 0S Long 148° 41' 60E Abau Airfield is located on Abau Island off the southern coast of New Guinea. Today, located in Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Construction During the middle of 1942, a single runway was constructed for light aircraft. Codenamed "Boston". Wartime History On December 12, 1942 two Americans Pfc Thomas and Pvt Butler who survived the crash of C-47 "Flying Dutchman" 41-18564 on November 10, 1942 were flown out of Abau Airfield aboard a light aircraft to Port Moresby. Today Still in use today as a small airport known as Abau Airport. Airport code: IATA: ABW.
