(USN) Task Force 38 (TF-38) under the command of Rear Admiral Frederick Sherman bombards Buka Airfield and Bonis Airfield, firing 2,700 rounds of 5" and 6" shells from cruisers USS Montpelier (CL-57), USS Cleveland (CL-55), USS Denver (CL-58), USS Columbia (CL-56) plus eight destroyers.
(USN) Task Force 39 (TF-39) carrier planes strikes Buka and Bonis with two raids: the first with 18 fighters, 15 SBD, 11 TBFs. The second strike has 14 fighters, 21 SBD, 11 TBFs that strike Buka.

(USN) As part of "Operation Shoestring 2", Task Force 38 carrier aircraft attack Buka Airfield.

(13th AF) 21 B-24's pound Buka Airfield.

(USN) SBDs and TBFs attack Buka Airfield. A SBD bomb hit a possible ammo dump causing large explosion and fire at the southwest end of the runway. Photos after the strike show seven bomb craters on the Buka runway. Lost is SBD Dauntless 35931 over Buka Airfield.
