Wooden crate abandoned at Danip Airfield (Alexishafen Airfield No. 1) near Alexishafen
The wooden crate is stenciled with "Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Wasp" and addressed to "The Catholic Mission via Madang". Prewar, this engine was imported by the Catholic Mission and was never installed before the Japanese occupation of this area in early 1943. This engine was to be installed in one of the Alexishafen Catholic Mission aircraft, possily their Junkers W33d "The Lady Letti" VH-UIW. This crate was located and photographed by the Australian Army after the area was liberated. Atop the crate is a native carving in the shape of a lizard.
