(RAAF) Three Hudsons lead by Wing Commander John Lerew made a mast-height
attack on shipping at Gasmata. Over Gasmata Harbor, the three Hudsons bombed Kinryu Maru and Kozui Maru score hits causing damage and casualties aboard both ships. A5M4 Claudes from Chitose Kokutai intercept and shoot down Hudson A16-126 pilot F/O Graham Ian Gibson (KIA) and Hudson A16-91 pilot W/Cdr John Margrave Lerew (survived).

Without opposition, the bombers made a second pass to strafe the area and before midday returned to 7 Mile Drome.
