Location
Green Island Lagoon Seaplane Base is located in Green Island Lagoon at the center of Green Island Atoll with Nissan Island to the southeast. Also known as simply Green Island Seaplane Base.

Wartime History
During January 1942, Japanese Navy H6K Mavis flyingboats and F1M2 Pete floatplanes used Green Island lagoon as a seaplane operating area. The lagoon area was used as a take off and landing area. Likely, there were no base facilities at this location. In January 1942, F1M2 Pete floatplanes engaged Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) 24 Squadron Hudsons from Vunakanau Airfield and attempted to bomb the anchorage area. After the Japanese invasion of Rabaul, the seaplanes were transfered to Simpson Harbor at Rabaul. It is unclear if any Japanese seaplanes or flyingboats used this location afterwards.

Allied missions against Nissan Island (Green Island)
January 1942–February 10, 1944

On February 15, 1944 Allied troops made an amphibious landing on Nissan Island as part of "Operation Square Peg". The atoll was declared secure on February 23, 1944. Immediately, Green Island Lagoon was used by Allied seaplanes and flying boats, with jetty and mooring locations on the western edge of Nissan Island with Green Island Lagoon as a seaplane operating area for take offs and landings. Used until July 1945 when the Allies withdrew from the area.

Today
Disused as a seaplane base since the Pacific War.
