World War II Pacific Theatre History
During January 1942, Green Island Lagoon was briefly used by Japanese Navy H6K Mavis flying boats and F1M2 Pete floatplanes used Green Island lagoon as a seaplane operating area. The lagoon area was used as a take off and landing area. Likely, there were no base facilities at this location. After the Japanese invasion of Rabaul, the seaplanes were transfered to Simpson Harbor at Rabaul. It is unclear if any Japanese seaplanes or flying boats used this location afterwards.
