Location
Pinapel Island is the second largest island to the north of Green Island Atoll. To the west is Sau Island (Sale). To the southeast is the northwest tip of Green Island Atoll including Belil Island, Sirot Island and Nissan Island roughly a half mile away.

Wartime History
After the Allied amphibous landing on Nissan Island on February 15, 1944 some of defending Japanese fled Green Island Atoll and managed to reach Pinapel Island. This island was never occupied by the Allied forces.
