Lat 3° 40' 10S Long 152° 26' 17E  Namatanai Airfield is located at an elevation of 150' above sea level near Namatanai on the northern coast of central New Ireland. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Namatanai Rural LLG in Namatanai District of New Ireland Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Built by the Japanese as a single runway.

This airfield was likely a secondary airfield to disperse aircraft as a satellite airfield for Kaveing Airfield.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, Namatanai Airfield was used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). Likely also used by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF). This airfield was likely a secondary airfield to disperse aircraft or for use as an emergency landing ground. During 1944 attacked by Allied bombers. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.
