(13th AF) 24 B-24s and 14 P-38s hit Panapai Airfield.

(13th AF) 24 B-24s bomb the airstrip at Panapai, New Ireland , causing
considerable damage to the runways.

Overnight, on September 1, 1944 at 6:30pm until September 2, 1944 at 3:30am, five PBJ Mitchells from VMB-433 fly individual night heckling bombing missions (nuisance raids) over Kavieng barracks, Kaving Airfield, Panapai supply areas and North Cape.
