Surrender plaque at Cape Wom Memorial Park at Cape Wom Airfield
Reads: "On this spot at 10:15 hrs on 13th September 1945 in the presence of a parade of over 3,000 troops comprising detachments from the Royal Australian Navy, every unit of the 6th Australian Division, 5th Australian Infantry Brigade, 3rd Australian Base-sub area, 2nd New Guinea Infantry Battalion and from the Royal Australian Air Force.
Lt-Gen Hatazo Adachi, C.O 18th Japanese Army
surrendered his sword to
Maj-Gen H. C. H. Robertson, G.B.E. D. S. O.
C.O. 6th Australian Divison
and signed a document of unconditional surrender of his Army and of the Japanese Naval forces under the command of Rear-Admiral Sato.
