American missions against Barakoma
August 15, 1943–January 16, 1944

August 13, 1943
(13th AF) Fighters cover amphibious landings at Vella Lavella where elements of the 25th Infantry Division, and supporting units, go ashore at Barakoma and establish a beachhead. Allied aircraft claim 25 Japanese aircraft shot down including 7 by 13th Air Force fighters attempting to attack the landing force.

August 15, 1943
(IJN) Japanese aircraft attempt to attack the American landing force off Barakoma. Intercepting Allied aircraft claim 25 Japanese aircraft shot down attempting to attack the landing force.

August 19-28, 1943
(IJN) Japanese aircraft attacked Allied forces in the Barakoma area losing a considerable number of aircraft and Allied fighters and anti-aircraft claimed about 50 attackers. None of the raids did considerable damage.

September 14, 1943
(IJN) Barakoma Airfield is attacked by Japanese airplanes throughout the day.

January 16, 1944
(IJN) Japanese aircraft drops four bombs harmlessly three miles from Barakoma Airfield.
