Location
Lat 25° 4' 40N Long 121° 13' 58E  Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is located at an elevation of 106' to the west of Taipei (Taihoku) on the northern edge of Taiwan (Formosa) in the Northern Taiwan Region. Also known as Taoyuan International Airport, Taoyuan Airport, Taiwan Airport or Chaing Kai Shek Airport.

Construction
Built during the late 1970s as a new airport for the Taipei area. On February 26, 1979 new airport named Taoyuan International Airport opened as Taoyuan International Airport with a single terminal (Terminal 1) moving international flights from overcrowded Taipei Songshan Airport. The name was later changed to Chiang Kai-shek International Airport named in honor of former President Chiang Kai-shek who died April 5, 1975. On July 29, 2000 the airport added Terminal 2. On September 6, 2006 officially renamed Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

Today
Officially, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is a civilian airport and port of entry. with two runways. The first is oriented 23/05 measures 12,008' x 197' surfaced with concrete. The second oriented 24/06 measures 10,991' x 197' surfaced with concrete. Airport codes: ICAO: RCTP IATA: TPE. The airport is the main hub airport for China Airlines and EVA Air.
