    Geiger Field (Sunset Field, Spokane Airport) Washington State United States
Location
Lat 47° 37' 12N Long 117° 32' 2W  Geiger Field is located at an elevation of 2,376' to the southwest of Spokane in Spokane County in Washington State in the United States. Also known as Sunset Field, Geiger Army Airfield (Geiger AAF). Still in use today Spokane International Airport.

Construction
Built prewar and known as Sunset Field. During 1941, purchased by the U.S. Government and renamed Geiger Field in honor of Major Harold Geiger, a U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) aviation pioneer who died in a crash in 1927. Connected to the Great Northern Railway. During 1942 as the Spokane Air Depot, Fairchild Air Force Base (Fairchild AFB) was built four miles to the west.

Wartime History
During World War II, used as a training base for B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers. Also used by Technical Service Command and as aircraft maintenance and supply depot with auxiliaries at Deer Park Airport and Felts Field.

On April 15, 1942 the 370th Bombardment Squadron (370th BS) was activated as a unit of the 307th Bombardment Group (307th BG).

Postwar
During late 1945, transfered to the War Assets Administration (WAA) and ownership signed over to Spokane County as part of the Surplus Property Act for development into a commercial airport. In 1946, became Spokane's municipal airport replacing Felts Field. In 1960, renamed Spokane Airport.

Today
Still in use today as Spokane International Airport or Spokane Airport with two runways. The first oriented 21/03 measure s 9,000' x 150' surfaced with asphalt. The second is oriented 25/07 measures 8,198' x 150' surfaced with asphalt. Airport codes: ICAO: KGEG and IATA: GEG. It retains airport code GEG, for Geiger Field.
