Wreckage of seven F4F-3 Wildcats from VMF-211 captured at Wake Island Airfield on Wake Island
(Center left) Wreckage of F4F-3 Wildcat 4019 Code 211-F-11 from VMF-211. On December 11, 1941 this Wildcat piloted by Captain Henry T. Elrod bombed and sunk Japanese destroyer Kisaragi and landed with damage beyond repair and was written off. Afterwards, stripped for spare parts. Beyond is the wreckage of other Wildcats and Wake Island Airfield runway and the edge of Wake Island. In the foreground is a wooden frame.
