| Location Lat 10° 49' 8N Long 106° 39' 7E Tân Sơn Nhất Airfield (Tan Son Nhat Airfield) is located at an elevation of 33' above sea level near Tân Sơn Nhất in the vicinity of Saigon. Also spelled Tan Son Nhut Airfield in English. Today, located in the Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Prewar Built in the early 1930s by the French. Wartime History During the Pacific War, used by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as a military airfield. At the end of the Pacific War, a total of 24 Japanese planes were surrendered at this location including airworthy Ki-100 8476M. After the surrender of Japan until at least December 1945, Japanese personnel remained and were tasked with servicing and repairing Ki-100 8476M for Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit–South East Asia (ATAIU-SEA). In late September 1945, Royal Air Force (RAF) No. 273 Squadron with Spitfires arrived at Tan Son Nhat Airfield and operated until late January 1946 when disbanded. Allied units at Tan Son Nhat Airfield RAF No. 273 Squadron (Spitfire) Don Muang arrives late September 1945–late January 1946 disbanded Postwar During the 1950s expanded for military use during the Vietnam War. Today Tan Son Nhat Airport is a civilian airport and port of entry. Also known as Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The airport has two runways.
