Location
Auckland Cemetery is located at the junction of Great North Road and Glenview Road in Waitakere City in the western outskirts of Auckland on the the North Island in New Zealand. Also know as simply Waikumete Cemetery.

Wartime History
During World War II, the cemetery was expanded with a section for military burials including American, Australian and New Zealand personnel who died in the New Zealand area. Postwar, the American graves were disinterred and transported elsewhere for permanent burial.

Today
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) maintains the military graves of 285 Commonwealth service personnel at the cemetery, 110 from World War I and 176 from World War II.

Auckland Provincial Memorial
The memorial is in the form of a six foot concrete cube raised two feet above the ground and divided by a diagonal section to which the name panels are affixed.

The memorial commemorates 56 servicemen from the province who lost their lives in and around New Zealand during World War I and World War II who have no known grave. Of the 56 commemorations, 40 are from World War I 1914-1918 who were buried at sea and have no known grave.
