Location
Kokoda War Cemetery was located at Kokoda in New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the in the Northern District in the Territory of Papua. Today located in Oro Province in Papua
New Guinea (PNG).
Wartime History
In early November 1942, the Australian Army established Kokoda War Cemetery to bury war dead. Adjacent was the Kokoda Japanese War Cemetery. The graves include casualties from Kokoda, Efogi and Wairopi Later in the war, all the graves were exhumed and reinterred at Soputa and postwar permanently buried at Bomana War Cemetery.
