MONDAY, 30 MARCH 1942 USN: Two U.S. commands are established in Pacific Theater with Admiral Chester W. Nimitz in Ocean Zone and General Douglas MacArthur in South Pacific. IJN: Japanese warships enter Shortland Harbor and two platoons of Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF) occupy the Shortland Islands.
