TUESDAY, 23 JUNE 1942

India: General Lewis H. Brereton is ordered to Middle East with all available bombers. A flight of 24 B-17's intended for China is instead diverted at Khartoum, Egypt.

Middle East: U.S. Military Mission is redesignated Iran-Iraq Service Command under Hq, USAFIME, effective 24 June. Col Shingler, with hq at Basra, heads the new command.

ALASKA (11th Air Force): Weather cancels a bombing mission. A B-17 flies a reconnaissance mission over Kiska. A P-40 on defensive patrol crashes at Elmendorf Field.

USAAF: B-26 Marauders from the 42nd BG, 69th BS arrive at Plaine Des Gaiacs Airfield on New Caledonia.

RAAF: Wirraway A20-506 crashed on a training flight.

USN: Launched is SS Matthew P. Deady at Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation in Portland.

PBY Catalina on routine search spots submarine USS S-27 (SS-132) crew at Constantine Harbor and rescues 15 crew.
