U.S. Army: At the White House, U.S. President Harry Truman bestows the Medal of Honor on General Johnathan M. Wainwright for his actions in the Philippines.

JAAF: Ki-54 Hickory flew a Japanese surrender delegation to Labuan Airfield including Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) Lieutenant General Masao Baba, commander 37th Army and Supreme Commander of Japanese forces in Borneo plus his senior staff. After landing, he surrendered to Australian Army Major General George Wootten.

Australian Army: Rear-Admiral Sato boards Fairmile Motor Launch ML805 in Kairuru Strait and surrenders the remaining Japanese Navy forces under his command on Muschu Island and Kairuru Island and hands over his sword to Australian Army Major-General Robertson, commander 6th Division.
