THURSDAY, 4 OCTOBER 1945
USN: USS Yorktown (CV-10) anchors in Nakagusuku Bay (Buckner Bay) and embarks passengers then departs on a non-stop voyage across the Pacific bound for San Francisco.
USMC: Headquarters issued a directive ordering all enlisted male selectees, reservists, and regulars whose enlistments had expired be discharged or placed on terminal leave by 18 October, except for certain retentions authorized.
