Background
The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) Type 94 37mm anti-tank gun 九四式三十七粍速射砲 Kyūyon-shiki sanjyūnana-miri sokushahō was introduced in 1936. The design originated as an improvement of the 37mm Infantry Gun Type 11 (1922) and was based on the German Army 3.7 cm Pak 36.
Wartime History
Operated by a crew of eleven. Known to the Japanese Army as a "Rapid Fire Gun". Each Infantry Regiment was alloted four Type 94 guns plus one regimental gun battery of four 75mm Mountain Guns. This weapon was used at Nomonhan during the summer of 1939. Also used during the Pacific War between 1941 until 1945.
The Type 94 (1936) 37mm gun was the main armament in the turret of the Type 95 Ha Go Light Tank and the Type 97 Te Ke Tankette.
