Gun History Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) as 75mm anti-aircraft gun Type 88 (1928) serial number unknown. Wartime History During early 1943 this gun was added as defensive armament to Oryoku Maru. On December 15, 1944 sunk aboard Oryoku Maru. Wreckage This gun remained underwater on the shipwreck. During 1952, the gun and pedestal were salvaged by the U.S. Navy (USN) using Seaplane Wrecking Derrick YSD-42 and later donated to the American Legion Subic Bay Post No. 4 in Olongapo and place atop a concrete base as a memorial. On November 11, 1952 dedicated with a plaque that reads: "Oryoku Maru Fwd 3" gun - dedicated by the American legion on November 11, 1952 to the memory of the American prisoners who lost their lives aboard the Japanese 'Hell Ship' Oryoku Maru sunk in Subic Bay by American planes Dec. 15, 1944 - Edward T. Berling Post Commander Subic Bay Post No. 4" Display During August 1972 this gun was donated to Yasukuni Shrine and placed on display at Yūshūkan (Yasukuni Museum). The gun is displayed on a pedistal with the barrel angled at roughly 45° and the base legs cut or removed. Contribute
