Wartime History Built by Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth in the United Kingdom, possibly in 1900. Prchased by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and designated as 8" Coastal Defense Gun Type 38 (1905). Wartime History Prewar, this gun was emplaced with a shield at Sapuk on Moen Island (Weno) to defend Truk Lagoon. Also known as Sapuk No. 2. In early September 1945 the gun was abandoned and the breech block removed. Wreckage This gun remains in situ. Known t locals as the "Singapore Gun" as many incorrectly believe this gun was captured by the Japanese in Singapore and transported to Truk Lagoon.
