Location Lat 27° 30' 0S Long 153° 1' 0E Brisbane is located at an elevation of 52' / 15m above sea level in central Queensland in Australia. The city is divided by the Brisbane River and roughly nine miles to the east is Moreton Bay. To the southwest is Wacol. A&P Building MacArthur's Headquarters (GHQ) The A&P Building, 201 Edward Street, Brisbane, Queensland During the Pacific War, the 5th floor was used by the U.S. Army as a General Headquarters (GHQ) by General Douglas MacArthur plus others senior officers including General Sutherland and General George C. Kenney. Today, the part of the building is a bookstore with a connected shopping center. References: MacArthur Museum Brisbane / Oz@War Genral Headquarters (GHQ) MacArthur Museum Brisbane Museum is now on the 8th floor of the building, that preserves MacArthur and Sutherland's offices. References: MacArthur Museum Brisbane "Battle of Brisbane" Fight between Australian and American service personnel in downtown Brisbane on November 26-27, 1942. On the first night one Australian serviceman was killed, eight people suffered gunshot wounds and several hundred people were injured. The second night, eight U.S. Army Military Police (MPs), one serviceman and four American officers were hospitalised and many others injured. Afterwards, the American units involved in the riots were relocated out of Brisbane, MP's strength was increased, the Australian canteen was closed and the American PX was relocated. Shrine of Remembrance, Brisbane The Shrine of Remembrance is located in ANZAC Square, between Ann Street and Adelaide Street, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. With its 'Eternal Flame', the Shrine is a war memorial dedicated to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). Eagle Farm Field Airfield adjacent to Eagle Farm horse racing track, disused today. Archerfield Airfield Airfield used by RAAF and USAAF for the duration of the war. Camp Cable American Army camp, located outside Brisbane, between Logan Village and Tamborine. Established during the summer of 1942, the 32nd Infantry Division began constructing the camp. It is said that from 1942-44 over a million Americans passed through Brisbane and Camp Cable. 115th Hospital Located at the eastern edge of Camp Cable.
