Location Lat 6°50' 49.57"S Long 155°35'12.43"E Moila Point is a flat feature that forms the southwestern corner of Bougainville Island. Also known as "Point Moila". Some wartime sources misspell this location "Moli Point" [sic]. To the northeast is Kangu and beyond Kahili (Buin). Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Northern Solomons. Today located in the Buin Rural LLG, Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During early 1942 Japanese forces occupied the Moila Point area. Between 1942-1944 Allied aircraft flew bombing and strafing missions against the Moila Point area as it was located at the western edge of the Buin (Kahili)-Shortland anchorage area.
