Location Lat 5° 31' 0S Long 154° 49' 0E Ruri village is located in the northeastern coast of Bougainville. Borders Ruri Bay to the north and Bonis connected by the coastal road northwest to Siara and southwest to Tsunpets. Prewar and during the Pacific War, part of the Kieta District in the Territory of New Guinea. Postwar, part of Bougainville Province (North Solomons Province). Today located in Selau Suir Rurial LLG of Northern Bougainville District in Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During April 1942 occupied by the Japanese. After the Allied landings on November 1, 1943 at Empress Augusta Bay, a three-pronged Allied drive contained remaining Japanese forces to the Bonis / Buka areas after the occupation of the road junction at Ruri Bay on May 11, 1944. During early March 1945, Japanese tanks launched a counteroffensive in this area, but were spotted by Allied aircraft and destroyed.
