Location
Lat 11° 33' 45N Long 104° 54' 58E  Phnom Penh is located at an elevation of 59' / 17m above sea level on the west bank of the Mekong River in Cambodia. Prewar and during the Pacific War, part of French Indochina or Indo-China encompassing present day Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. In French known as Ville de Phnom Penh. Wartime Allied spelling Pnom Penh. Also spelled Phnum Pénh, Pnom Penh, Phnom Penh, Ville de Phnom Penh, Nam-Vang, Phnom Pen, Nam Van. Today, Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city as an autonomous municipality surrounded by Kandal Province in Cambodia.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, occupied by the Japanese. On February 7, 1945 (Mission 34) bombed by nineteen B-29 Superfortresses as a target of opportunity. This was the only time the city was bombed during World War II.
