Location Lat 6° 55' 0N Long 158° 9' 0E Palikir is the national capital at an elevation of 830' / 252m on the north coast of Pohnpei Island (Ponape) the Palikir District of Ponape State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Also known as "National Government Center". When a prominent ridge is crossed you are in Palikir District. Located six miles to the east is Kolonia (Colonia). Palikir Airfield (Airfield Number 2) Japanese built airfield PBJ "Love Bug" Bureau Number 35275 Tail MB-6 Pilot Love crashed February 6, 1945 Japanese Searchlight Installation The Japanese had a large concrete searchlight installation on the summit of Palikir Hill. The whole hill is crisscrossed with trenches and emplacements for field guns. Stan Gajda reports: "I have found a few 6.5mm and 13mm cartridges up there. In recent years some yahoos undid the searchlight and rolled the drum down the hill where it finished up in the bush near PBJ "Love Bug" 35275. Now, it is all smashed up." Contribute
