Location
Waimanalo is located on the eastern tip of Oahu near Diamond Head in Hawaii. Prewar and during World War II part of the Territory of Hawaii. Today located in the District of Koʻolaupoko, Honolulu County in the State of Hawaii in the United States.

Wartime History
On December 7, 1941 during the morning HA-19 Type A Midget Submarine (Midget C) ran aground off Bellows Beach at Waimanalo. The commander Ensign Kazuo Sakamaki attempted to beach the submarine and demolish it with the scuttling charge but it failed to detonate. Sakamaki was captured and became the first Japanese Prisoner Of War (POW) captured during the Pacific War. The other crew member Inagaki drown inside the submarine.
